WINING AND DINING
Rumour has it that Edinburgh has more places to eat and drink per head of population than any other city in the UK. The choice is infinite and includes foods and wines from all over the world. The city is buzzing with a fabulous variety of traditional and modern cuisine, and international chefs making use of the finest local ingredients.
With such a diverse range of options we only have the space to suggest a few favourites / options and provide a couple of links to current listings.
Within walking distance of the apartment is the New Bell which has been voted ‘best neighbourhood restaurant' and Hewat's offering classic Franco / Scottish dishes with a contemporary twist. A walk to either restaurant would be a worthwhile bit of exercise.
A birthday? Anniversary? Want to impress? Or just fancy a splurge? Try the Atrium offering absolute quality presented with the minimum of fuss, the Witchery renowned for its sensational food served in the most indulgent setting, the Tower with its gourmet reputation for outstanding food, and Merchants founded on fine food and excellent service, and enjoy an experience to savour long after your visit to Edinburgh.
The Dome, has two restaurants and bars plus private dining suites and exudes Georgian splendour, the bustling Le Café St. Honore the nearest thing to a Parisian bistro outside of Paris, Fishers in the City, a haven for lovers of fresh fish and seafood and Centotre, perhaps the most authentic Italian food around, are all excellent and won't break the bank.
Then there are the 4 Howie's, 2 Petit Paris, Maxie's Bistro,
Maison Bleue and La p'tite folie offering fabulous bistro style food at great prices and David Bann and Henderson's with extensive and innovative vegetarian menus. Mamma's American Pizza's and Wannaburger's home made burgers prove that these are not junk food options whilst Calistoga,with possibly the greatest selection of Californian wines this side of the Atlantic, serves upmarket Californian fare. La Bruschetta a small and intimate restaurant serving mouth watering Italian dishes contrasts with Bar Roma a vibrant Edinburgh institution with an extensive menu, great Italian wines and a party atmosphere.
Scotland's ‘other' food is definitely curry and The Indian Cavalry Club, Kalpna and Kushis are all award winning restaurants with innovative menus that capture the modern essence and flavours of the sub continent.
